Da die Verschlusstechnik ein wenig verwirrend ist und auch während dem Nähen schwer zu dokumentieren war, habe ich nachträglich am fertigen Kleid nochmal Bilder aufgenommen. Mich fasziniert ja die edwardianische Kunst Verschlüsse so anzubringen, dass sie eigentlich nicht sichtbar sind und man unterschätzt wieviel Planung, Kreativität und Geduld dafür nötig sind. Ich hatte für mein Kleid schon eine grobe Idee und durfte bei Black Snail Patterns ein Originalkleid mit fast identischem Verschluss anschauen, dass unglaublich aufschlussreich war.
Since the technique of closing the dress is a little confusing and was also difficult to document while sewing, I took pictures of my finished 1910 walking dress afterwards. I am fascinated by the Edwardian art of attaching closures in such a way that they are not actually visible and one underestimates how much planning, creativity and patience it takes. I already had a rough idea for my dress and got to see an original dress at Black Snail Patterns with an almost identical closure that was incredibly insightful.
The upper part is closed with the black bib with hooks and eyes under the actual chest part. This pulls the back nice and tight to the body and it prevents that the snaps open by accident
Snaps on the skirt, which closes as an extension of the closure of the bodice.
As an extension of the skirt snaps, the upper part is now folded over the bib and also closed with snaps.
Here you can see the snaps of the lace insert. This is closed in the middle of the neck.
The snaps of the lace insert can be seen once more. You can see that it is firmly sewn on to the right of the neckline and bib.
The sleeves are closed with two snaps at the wrist.
